Welcome to TinyX. This guide walks you through creating your first short link — from sign-up to share-ready in under two minutes.

1. Create an Account

Head to tinyx.co and click Get Started. Enter your email and a password, then verify your email address using the link we send you. Email verification is required before you can create links.

2. Go to Your Dashboard

After logging in, you'll land on your dashboard. This is your home base — it shows your recent links, usage stats, and quick-create button.

3. Create a Short Link

Click New Link in the top navigation or the dashboard shortcut.

Fill in the details:

Destination URL — the full URL you want to shorten (e.g. https://yourdomain.com/some/long/path)
Short code — leave this blank to get a random code, or type a custom one if you're on Pro or Max
Label — an internal note so you can find the link later (not shown to visitors)

Click Create Link and you're done.

4. Share Your Link

Your short link will look like tinyx.co/x/abc123. Copy it from the link list and share it anywhere — email, social, print, wherever.

5. What Happens When Someone Clicks

TinyX instantly redirects your visitor to the destination URL and records the click. You'll see that data in the link's analytics view within seconds.

Protecting Links and Files with Passwords

TinyX lets you add a password to any short link or shared file. Visitors are shown a prompt before they can access the destination — no account required on their end.

Adding a Password to a Link

Go to Links and click New Link (or edit an existing one)
Scroll to the Security section
Toggle on Password protection and enter your password
Save the link

When someone visits your short link, they'll see a password entry screen before being redirected. They won't see the destination URL until they enter the correct password.

Adding a Password to a File

Go to Files and click the file you want to protect
In the file settings, toggle on Password protection and set a password
Save

Anyone you share the file link with will need the password to download it.

Tips

Sharing the password: TinyX doesn't send the password to recipients — that's intentional. Share it separately via a different channel (text message, email, in person) for better security.

Changing a password: You can update or remove the password on any link or file at any time from its edit screen. Existing clicks or downloads already completed are not affected.

Forgotten passwords: TinyX doesn't store passwords in a recoverable way. If you lose it, remove the old password and set a new one.

Webhooks: Getting Notified When Links Are Used

Webhooks let TinyX send an automatic notification to another tool the moment something happens — a link is created, deleted, or a file is uploaded through an Upload Drop. No polling required.

Supported Platforms

TinyX webhooks work with:

Slack — posts a message to a channel
Discord — posts to a channel via a webhook URL
Google Chat — posts to a Space
Generic webhook — sends a JSON POST to any URL you control

Setting Up a Webhook

Go to Account → Webhooks
Click Add Webhook
Choose the platform type
Paste your webhook URL (see below for how to get one per platform)
Select which events should trigger this webhook
Save

Getting Your Webhook URL

Slack: In Slack, go to your workspace's App Directory and create an Incoming Webhook. Slack will give you a URL starting with https://hooks.slack.com/...

Discord: In Discord, open the channel settings → Integrations → Webhooks → New Webhook. Copy the webhook URL.

Google Chat: In a Space, click the space name → Apps & Integrations → Add Webhooks. Copy the URL provided.

Generic: Use any URL that accepts a POST request with a JSON body (e.g. a Zapier webhook, Make scenario, or your own server).

Understanding Your Analytics: Clicks, Devices, and Geography

Every TinyX short link automatically collects click data. Here's how to read it and what you can do with it.

Viewing Analytics for a Link

Go to Links in your dashboard
Click the link you want to inspect
Open the Analytics tab

You'll see a summary of all recorded clicks for that link.

What's Tracked

Click count — total number of times the link has been followed. Updated in real-time.

Clicks over time — a chart showing click volume by day. Useful for spotting peaks (e.g. when you sent an email campaign or posted on social).

Geography — a breakdown of clicks by country, derived from the visitor's IP address. Helps you understand where your audience is.

Devices — split between desktop, mobile, and tablet. Useful for knowing whether to optimise your destination for mobile.

Referrers — where clicks came from. If someone followed your link from a tweet or a newsletter, the referrer source appears here. Direct links (typed URLs, most messaging apps) show as "Direct."

Browser and OS — a breakdown of the browsers and operating systems your visitors use.

Log Retention

How far back your analytics history goes depends on your plan:

Setting Link Expiry: Time Limits and Click Limits

TinyX gives you two ways to make a link stop working automatically: after a set date/time, or after a certain number of clicks. You can use one or both together.

Time-Based Expiry

Set a date and time after which the link will no longer redirect visitors.

To set it:

Open New Link or edit an existing link
In the Expiry section, toggle on Expires at and pick a date and time
Save the link

After the expiry time passes, anyone who visits the link will see an "This link has expired" page. The link remains in your dashboard so you can see its stats or re-activate it.

Use cases: promotional campaigns with a deadline, event registration that closes on a specific date, time-sensitive downloads.

Click-Based Expiry

Set a maximum number of clicks. Once that limit is reached, the link stops working.

To set it:

Open New Link or edit an existing link
In the Expiry section, toggle on Max clicks and enter a number
Save the link

The click counter increments on every visit. When it hits the limit, the link expires immediately — the click that triggers the limit does still redirect successfully.

Use cases: limited-access resources, exclusive offers with a fixed number of redemptions, early-access links.

Using Both Together

You can enable both a time limit and a click limit on the same link. The link expires as soon as whichever condition is met first.

QR Codes: Generating and Downloading

Every TinyX short link has a QR code generated automatically. You can download it and use it anywhere — print, signage, presentations, packaging, wherever.

Generating a QR Code

You don't need to do anything special — TinyX creates a QR code for every link at the moment you create it.

To access it:

Go to Links in your dashboard
Find the link you want a QR code for
Click the QR icon on the link row, or open the link detail and look for the QR code section

The QR code is displayed immediately.

Downloading the QR Code

Click Download QR to save the QR code as an SVG or PNG file. SVG is a vector format — it scales to any size without losing quality, making it perfect for print.

Where to Use QR Codes

Print materials — business cards, flyers, brochures, menus. QR codes let you put a clickable link on physical media.

Event signage — conference stands, pop-up displays, venue signs. Attendees can scan instead of typing a URL.

Packaging — product boxes, labels, tags. Link to instructions, warranty registration, or a landing page.

Presentations — drop the QR code on your final slide so the audience can follow the link without writing it down.

Email signatures — some email clients render images, so a QR code in your signature can work as a quick scan-to-visit.
