Questionnaire Links: Building Forms with TinyX

TinyX turns a few lines of Markdown-style text into a shareable form. Respondents don't need an account. Questionnaires are on every plan: 5 on Free, 50 on Pro, unlimited on Max.

Creating a questionnaire

  1. Click Create Link and choose the Questionnaire tab
  2. Write your form in the text box (syntax below)
  3. Optionally set a password, Max Responses, or an expiration
  4. Create the link

Writing your form

Each line is read on its own:

Line Becomes
# Section: Title or # Title A section heading
* Question A required field (plain text input unless you add a type tag)
Question [type] An optional field of that type
* Question [type] A required field of that type
- Option An option for the [choice], [multi] or [dropdown] field just above it
> Text Help text, when placed on the line right after a field
// Note A note to yourself. Removed; respondents never see it.
Any other line A paragraph of instructions

A line without a leading * and without a type tag is treated as instructions, not a field. The type tag must be the last thing on the line.

Field types

Tag Field
[text] Single-line text
[email] Email address (validated)
[long] Multi-line text area
[number] Number
[date] Date picker
[choice] Radio buttons (one answer); list options with - lines
[multi] Checkboxes (several answers); list options with - lines
[dropdown] Select menu; list options with - lines

There's no file-upload field (use an Upload Drop for that), and links in question text aren't clickable. A form can have up to 50 fields.

Viewing responses

Open the questionnaire in your dashboard and go to Responses. You'll see responses over time, a country breakdown, and each individual response.

Exporting responses

From the Responses page, export everything as a CSV file, on every plan. Columns map to your form fields. On Pro and Max you can also fetch responses as CSV through the API by sending Accept: text/csv.

Limiting responses

Set Max Responses to cap submissions (for example, limited event spots). When the form is full or past its expiration, new visitors see a Link Unavailable page with the reason.

What respondents see after submitting

A confirmation page. They don't get a copy of their answers or an email.

Privacy notes

  • Responses are not end-to-end encrypted.
  • TinyX doesn't email you about new responses. A webhook on the link sends a questionnaire.response event with the respondent's IP and country, not their answers.

Tips

Keep forms short. Completion drops with long forms.

Start with a clear section heading so respondents know what they're filling in.

Add a password for internal or invite-only forms, and an expiration to close the form automatically after a deadline.
