Setting Link Expiry: Time Limits and Click Limits

TinyX can make a link stop working automatically: after a date and time, after a number of uses, or both. Both options are available on every plan.

Time-based expiry

  1. Click Create Link or open an existing link and click Edit Link
  2. Set Expiration to a date and time
  3. Save the link

After that time, anyone who opens the link sees a Link Unavailable page explaining that the link has expired. The link stays in your dashboard so you can still see its stats.

Use cases: campaigns with a deadline, registration that closes on a set date, time-sensitive downloads.

Use-based limits

Set a maximum number of uses. The field name depends on the link type:

  • Max Accesses for URL (redirect) links
  • Max Downloads for file links. Viewing a single file and downloading it both count as a use.
  • Max Uploads for Upload Drops
  • Max Responses for questionnaires

Once the limit is reached, the link stops working.

Use cases: limited-access resources, offers with a fixed number of redemptions, one-time downloads.

How the count works

The count goes up each time the link is used. With a limit of 10, uses 1 through 10 go through normally, including the 10th. The 11th visitor and everyone after sees the Link Unavailable page.

Using both together

You can set an expiration and a use limit on the same link. It stops working as soon as either condition is met.

What visitors see

A Link Unavailable page with a short reason (for example "This link has expired."). They aren't redirected and don't see the destination.

Reactivating a link

  1. Open the link and click Edit Link
  2. Move the expiration later, clear it, or raise or clear the use limit
  3. Save

The link works again immediately. You can also switch a link off and on with its Active status.

Common questions

Does the last allowed click still redirect? Yes. The visitor who uses the last allowed click is redirected. Only visitors after that see Link Unavailable.

Can I see how many uses are left? Yes. Your link list shows the remaining uses for capped links.
