Upload Drops: Collecting Files from Others
An Upload Drop is a TinyX link that lets someone send files to you without needing an account. Think of it as a private inbox for receiving files. Upload Drops ("Upload links" on the pricing cards) are available on Pro and Max.
When to use this
- Collecting documents from clients (contracts, IDs, forms)
- Receiving design assets, photos or video
- Gathering submissions from a team or contributors
- Any time you need files from someone rather than sending files to them
Creating an Upload Drop
- Click Create Link and choose the Upload tab
- Configure your drop:
- Notes (optional): an internal name so you know what this drop is for
- Message (optional): shown to uploaders as instructions
- Password Protection (optional): require a password before someone can upload
- Require encryption (optional): see below
- Max Uploads (optional): how many uploads the drop accepts before it closes
- Expiration (optional): stop accepting files after a date and time
- Create the link
Your drop link looks like any other TinyX short link, for example tinyx.co/x/abc123.
What the sender sees
The sender opens your link, enters the password if you set one (it's remembered for about an hour), reads your message, picks one or more files and uploads them.
- Any file type is accepted.
- Several files at once: senders can pick multiple files in one go, up to a per-batch limit set by your plan.
- File size: each file can be up to your plan's file limit: 1 GB on Pro and 5 GB on Max, per the live pricing cards. Uploads also count toward your storage (100 GB on Pro, 300 GB on Max).
Is it encrypted?
Only if you choose. Turn on Require encryption (needs a password and a plan with encryption) and each file is encrypted in the sender's browser with AES-256-GCM before upload, using a key derived from the drop password with a random salt per file. TinyX can't read those files.
If you don't turn it on, files are uploaded over HTTPS and stored encrypted at rest by Cloudflare R2, but they are not end-to-end encrypted. See End-to-End Encryption.
Accessing uploaded files
Open the drop link in your dashboard to see its Uploads page: each file with its size and upload time, ready to download or manage. MP4 and MOV videos can play inline; other formats such as HEIC download.
TinyX doesn't email you when a file arrives. To get notified, attach a webhook to the drop (see Webhooks); it sends a link.uploaded event.
Upload limits
When a drop reaches its Max Uploads, or passes its expiration, new visitors see a Link Unavailable page with the reason. To reopen it, edit the link and raise or clear the limit, or move the expiration.
Tips
Use a password for sensitive drops, and share it separately. For confidential documents, also turn on Require encryption.
Label your drops clearly in Notes (for example "Q2 client proposals, Acme Corp").
Combine with expiry so the drop closes automatically when your submission window ends.
